Leadership not partisanship should be the order of the day

I guess I should know better having worked with politicians but it seems some are more interested in the blame game. Congress is really great at taking credit for things done right and assigning blame when things go wrong. Of course congress is also partly to blame collectively as well. When the Department of Homeland Security was created, Congress asked that FEMA be put under the jurisdiction of DHS and the president obliged. Now there are members of Congress who are calling for FEMA to be a cabinet level agency. I guess they figure they are doing something. Whether it leads to substance change is another question.
I find that race component of this disaster very interesting. While I certainly empathize with the poor blacks caught up in this. I think there are far bigger issues at stake than the whole race/class issue. Will the government be ready for the next major disaster or terrorist strike. The terrorists wont be waiting until Congress decides the perfect plan that will solve our problems.
